Pre-publication Review

22 views 0

Sometimes in the course of your reporting, sources may ask to look over your story before it publishes, a practice known as pre-publication review.

The Collegian does not allow pre-publication review for anybody, no exceptions.

If someone — your sources, a friend, someone from administration, anyone — asks to see your story before it publishes in the newspaper or on deltacollegian.net, you are obligated to deny them. If they persist, direct them to adviser Tara Cuslidge-Staiano and explain that you have no control over this policy. The same applies to photos.

HOWEVER, clarifying quotes is not the same thing as pre-publication review. If you want to call a source to double-check something they said or ask for more information, you can (and should). Just don’t allow them to see any version of your full story before publication.
